For this project I acted as the lead designer with Big Spirit Inc., collaborating with the National Native American Boarding School Healing Coalition (NABS). NABS is the first and only national organization advocating for Native peoples impacted by U.S. Indian boarding school policies, seeking truth through education and research, justice through activism and policy advocacy, and healing through programs and traditional gatherings.
A comprehensive booth design and various outreach materials were created to support NABS’s mission. Key elements included a T-shirt design for Orange Shirt Day, a business card flyer for their new online resource library (NIBSDA), and cohesive banner and backdrop designs. The T-shirt design visually communicated the spirit of remembrance and solidarity that Orange Shirt Day represents.
Additionally, the business card flyer introduced NABS’s new online resource library, highlighting accessible resources for education and advocacy. The booth setup was completed with banner and backdrop designs that were cohesive with NABS’s branding, crafted to attract attention and convey the importance of this history.
A unique aspect of this project was working with the Smithsonian to gather and edit historical photos. These images enriched the visual impact and anchored the materials in a deep sense of authenticity and historical context.
The goal was to create designs that were visually appealing, meaningful, and respectful of the history and experiences of Native peoples. This collaboration with NABS allowed for a significant contribution to a cause dedicated to truth, justice, and healing.
